The Vinsanto Trail in Torrita di Siena

According to ancient documents, the trail recalls the old medieval route that connected the two castles of Torrita and Montefollonico, namely the last bastions of the Republic of Siena against Montepulciano, which was allied of Florence.

The route connects the camper area of ​​Torrita di Siena with the Porta di Follonica in Montefollonico. Along the trail, you will find available five rest areas with benches, a sign featuring indications for the trail, and a themed table that tells the story of Torrita di Siena, Montefollonico, the Cistercian monastery of Santa Maria in Follonica (called “Il Conventaccio”), and the vicissitudes of Ghino di Tacco, i.e. the "Gentleman Bandit" born of a noble family from Torrita di Siena, whose story is narrated by Boccaccio in the Decameron and quoted by Dante in the Divine Comedy. Along the trail, do not miss the tradition of Vinsanto, i.e. the product of excellence of this territory, a symbol of Tuscan hospitality and protagonist of the event "Lo gradireste un goccio di Vinsanto? [Would You Like a Sip of Vin Santo?]", held every year on December 8 in Montefollonico.
