260th Anniversary Celebrations of the Accession of Pietro Leopoldo as Grand Duke of Tuscany

In 1765, Pietro Leopoldo of Habsburg-Lorraine was installed as Grand Duke of Tuscany, ushering in a season of reforms that profoundly shaped the history of our region. 260 years later, his legacy is celebrated with a rich calendar of events taking place in:

• The Grand Ducal Estate of Dolciano, in Chiusi. Guided tours, educational workshops, trekking, and theatrical events will offer the public the opportunity to rediscover the innovative spirit of Tuscan Enlightenment and the deep ties between territory, history, and community;
• Torrita di Siena, where the Grand Duke’s journeys through the Valdichiana, his land reclamations, and the wide-ranging reforms enacted during his two decades of rule will be remembered through research activities, performances, readings, conferences, forums, installations, and exhibitions involving local schools and cultural associations.
