The Days of Ghino di Tacco
Four days of history, legends, and adventures within the walls of Torrita di Siena
There is a character who has lingered for centuries among the walls of Torrita di Siena, a figure halfway between history and legend: Ghino di Tacco. Born in the mid-13th century at the Castle of La Fratta, this rebellious bandit was both feared and celebrated. He is remembered by Dante Alighieri in the Purgatorio and Giovanni Boccaccio in the Decameron, a sign that his exploits have left an indelible mark on collective memory.
From 11th to 13th September 2026, Torrita di Siena will pay tribute to its outlaw with three days of events, performances and historical reenactments. It will be a journey back to the Middle Ages, among ancient walls brought to life by music, drums, duels and flavours, recreating an adventurous and turbulent era.
The route is divided into three stages: the first, from Torrita di Siena to Monticchiello (20.3 km); the second, from Monticchiello to Contignano (23.7 km); and the third, from Contignano to Radicofani (16.7 km). The itinerary is of medium-high difficulty, intended for experienced walkers and accompanied by a Certified Environmental Hiking Guide.
