Sala d’Arte Domenico Beccafumi

San Martino’s church built in 1844, it has a travertine and terracotta facade and Doric pillars and capitals. The bell gable contains a bell dated 1282.

The single nave houses the Domenico Beccafumi sacred art collection comprised of paintings from the ancient church of San Martino in Foro destroyed in 1841, as well as works of art and holy vessels from the 14th e 18th century from the churches in Sarteano and the surrounding territory.

There are two paintings on wooden panels by Jacopo di Mino del Pellicciaio, the Madonna whit Child known as “Madonna del Cardellino”Madonna of the Goldfinch (dated 1342?) and the polyptych showing the Madonna with Child and St. John the Baptist and St.John the Evangelist from the church of San Francesco; the panel by Andrea di Niccolò showing the Enthroned Madonna and Child and St. Sebastian and St. Rocco, the Annunciation (1545 – 46) by the renowned Renaissance – Mannerist painter Domenico Beccafumi, and two Panels dated circa 1514 the Announcing Angel and the Announced Virgin by Girolamo del Pacchia (from the church of San Lorenzo). Finally a Madonna and Child in terracotta attributed to the 15th century sienese artist (Giovanni Turino?). Together with a small wooden crucifix intended for private worship attributed to Antonio da Sangallo. Among the later works are exposed a beautiful painting by mannerist culture with the Effusio

Among the later works are exposed a beautiful painting by mannerist culture with the Effusio sanguinis by the florentine Niccolò Betti (from Castiglioncello del Trinoro). Along with the large altarpieces with the Visitation by Matteo Rosselli (first half of 17th century) and the Madonna in Glory with Child and Saints by Vincenzo Rustici (beginning of 17th century).
