THEY ARE HIDDEN ALL OVER THE VALDICHIANA SENESE, AND THEY’RE ALL MASTERPIECES OF THE SCUOLA SENESE’S EXPONENS, THE ART SCHOOL THAT FLOURISHED BETWEEN THE XII AND THE XV CENTURY, BUT IN PARTICULAR THEY CAN BE ADMIRED DURING ALL THE YEAR.
During the exhibition “Il Buon Secolo della Pittura Senese”, relocated throughout Montepulciano, Pienza and San Quirico d’Orcia from the 18th of March and the 30th June 2017, it will be possible to revile this fantastic artistic period admiring the paintings and the artworks.
But the journey is only at the beginning. In Valdichiana Senese, the encounter with the masterpieces dating back to the Buon Secolo della Pittura Senese is behind the corner.
FIRST: CASTELMUZIO, A VILLAGE IN THE MUNICIPALITY OF TREQUANDA
There is the Museo d’Arte Sacra della Confraternita della SS Trinità e di S. Bernardino, where it’s possible to admire paintings and sacred artworks including a painting of the 1500, embedded in a frame of putty, that belongs to Domenico Beccafumi’s school. SECOND: TORRITA DI SIENA
At Piazza Matteoti, inside the roman church of Santa Flora e Lucilla, is conserved the “Lunetta del Sangue di Cristo”, attributed to Donatello. On the wall there is a blade from the Sodoma’s atelier representing the “Madonna col bambino fra angeli e santi”.
THREE: SARTEANO
Inside the Church of San Martino, recently converted in Sacred and Art Room, where is conserved Domenico Beccafumi’s masterpiece, “L’Annunciazione”, with other artworks of the senese art. Info: www.sarteanoliving.it
FOUR: SINALUNGA
At Tenuta la Fratta, an historical farm of the XIX cen., there is the a little chapel dedicated to San Michele. Inside there are conserved frescoes from the Sodoma, unique for their beuty. Info: www.tenutalafratta.it
FIVE: CHIANCIANO TERME
The “Museo della Collegiata” that artworks from the XII century to the XIX, including “La Madonna in trono con il Bambino” carved during the 1200 by a collaborator of Nicola Pisano and the “Crocefisso del Battistero” of the XIV century, given by critics to Segna di Bonaventura, from the Duccio di Buoninsegna’School.
