Events, tours and experiences to celebrate the arrival of "Olio Nòvo"

October in Valdichiana Senese is the month of oil. The olive groves are populated by expert pickers and improvised pickers, while the oil mills become a meeting place waiting to be able to taste the long-awaited "new oil". Here are the events of the month in Valdichiana Senese, not only to celebrate, but also to learn more about one of the excellent products of the territory. 

Fresh olive oil festival

In trequanda the 14-16 and the 21-23 October

The Fresh Olive Oil Festival is now a classic appointment in Trequanda which traditionally, with this event, opens the series of events dedicated to the new production of Tuscan oil. In addition to markets, meetings and tastings, the event also gives a cultural profile to olive growing, including book presentations and photographic exhibitions.

On the sidelines of the initiative, Saturday 22 October, during the Tracoil Conference will be presented the results of the three-year project dedicated to the geographical traceability of extra virgin olive oil in the Valdichiana Senese territory. The project is promoted by the Union of Municipalities of the Valdichiana Senese and the Strada del Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and the flavors of the Valdichiana Senese, in collaboration with the University of Siena. An important opportunity to reaffirm the genuineness of the agricultural productions of the area and to deepen their knowledge.

National Day of the Walk among the Olives

The 30 October in Cetona, Montepulciano, Sarteano and Torrita di Siena 

The national association Città dell’Olio returns to celebrate the National Day of the Walk among the Olives, an event that reaches its 6th edition this year. 161 cities are involved, including Cetona, Montepulciano, Sarteano and Torrita di Siena, confirming the significant tradition of olive growing in the Valdichiana Senese. The Walk among the Olives is an opportunity to re-establish the link with the earth, to rediscover the importance of nature and, why not, come across unprecedented views of the countryside of our territory. In each city participating in the initiative, the walk ends in an oil mill, an olive farm or a historic building where participants will be offered a tasting of bread, oil and typical products.

During the walk, the flash mob #abbracciaunolivo (hug an olive oil) will take place, with the aim of putting at the center of the day the theme of protecting the environment and fighting the abandonment of olive groves, through the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions (CO2) and the return to traditional olive growing and social agriculture.
