Bordering on nearby Umbria, is the second lake of Tuscany for surface extension. Surrounded by rushes, which once were extremely large, on its shores you can find plenty of white and yellow varieties of water lilies, along with fishes and water birds of all kinds, such as herons, swans, and ducks, as well as pheasants, hares and wild boars, who live undisturbed in the surroundings of the lake. You can comfortably sunbathe lying on the meadow, or on the pier that drifts from the shores further off into the water. For ecological and environmental reasons, it is forbidden to use motor boats, but if you want to explore the lake you can rent small rowing boats. At the Visitor Center “La Casetta”, you can see with your own eyes the objects of the local fishermen, or rent bicycles and book guided hiking tours, on foot, or on a small boat equipped with an electric motor powered by photovoltaic panels. Following the birdwatching trail that drifts into the water in the midst of the rushes, you can admire the whole expanse of the lake. In front of the visitor center, you will find a picnic area equipped with tables and benches of wood.
