The Reclamation Trail runs along the Canale Maestro della Chiana, from Chiusi to Arezzo. It covers 65 km of plains through cultivated fields and places of great beauty, such as the Lake Chiusi, the Nature Reserve of the Lake Montepulciano, as well as evidences of the reclamation works carried out throughout the Valdichiana, that in the past was a great swampland.
You will find many access points, with the possibility to park your car near the trail. Along the trail, you will find practical indications to visit particular sites of interest, as well as the various localities that rise in the valley. The trail originates from the Chiusi railway station, in particular from the location of the ancient embankment built following the agreement between the Grand Duchy of Tuscany and the Papal States in 1780. Not far from here, you will find the impressive Callone Pontificio. Behind the hill of Chiusi, you will get to the two towers Beccati Questo (built by the inhabitants of Siena) and Beccati Quello (built by the inhabitants of Perugia). The Lake Chiusi and the Lake Montepulciano, namely the ancient swampland, offer an atmosphere of great naturalistic value, and are an ideal stop for birdwatchers.
