The Dolciano grand-ducal estate, located just 3 km from the historic center of Chiusi and 4 km from the lake of the same name and the Bonifica cycle and pedestrian path, represents one of the most beautiful historical, cultural and architectural testimonies of the Valdichiana Senese.
The valley once crossed by the Clanis river is full of ancient grand ducal farms built in the first half of the 18th century which represent the result of the long reclamation process begun by the Medici family in the early 16th century and carried out by the Habsburg-Lorraine family starting from the second half of the 18th century. The farms were reserved for landowners and their farmers and were used to organize the agricultural work of the entire valley.
Visiting the Estate today means letting yourself be seduced by the "timeless charm of history" at the court of the Grand Duke of Tuscany. The ancient residence, with its historic rooms and Italian garden, will offer you the opportunity to visit, through a guided tour, the church, commissioned by the Grand Duke of Tuscany, embellished with fine internal frescoes and an imposing portico with columns , the museum of 20th century peasant civilization built inside the ancient granary, the kindergarten, the school, the beautiful recently renovated lemon groves, and the old cellars dating back to 1778. The guided tour also includes a collection of over 300 animals some of which are now extinct.
The visit to the Tenuta Granducale di Dolciano is available on Tuesdays (English language) and Thursdays (Italian language) from 4.30 p.m to 6.00 p.m. The visit to the estate is also available on different days and times, by reservation.
