Ruzzi della Conca

Chiusi Scalo, despite being a relatively “young” conurbation, without a urban rite or a carousel to recall, invented its own “carousel” in 1981: the "Ruzzi della Conca". This name is related to two typical dialect expressions of Chiusi: the Ruzzo, the game born to entertain and have fun, and the Conca, i.e. the valley where the town of Chiusi is geographically located.

The Ruzzi della Conca is an event held every year between the last Sunday of August and the first Sunday of September in Chiusi, in the province of Siena. Every year, one of the five districts of the town (Biffe, Fornace, Granocchiaio, Mar Nero and Sottogrottone) takes up the honor and the burden of organizing the party within their own borders. It chooses a place that becomes the headquarters of the party, where every night you can dine at the restaurants, have fun in the pub listening to live music, and get involved by the general happiness. So has been the event for the first thirty years of its life.

The races are held at the sport fields, preceded by a parade. Particularly worth seeing is the parade, which takes place on the last Sunday, in which the actors feature scenes of everyday life dating back to the 20th century. This is the historical period of reference for Chiusi Scalo, which is now permanently joined to the historical center of the town, but was born separated from it around its station, in the early 19th century. The event is based on the game of palla al bracciale [armlet ball], i.e. a game that has its roots in the Renaissance Italy and dominated the national audience before the advent of foreigner games, especially football.
