"Le Fighine" Trail in San Casciano dei Bagni
15 km between nature and history
The trail starts from the car park located just outside the historic center of San Casciano dei Bagni, where there will be a clearly visible sign indicating the direction of the route.
Take the SP 41 in the direction of Celle, after about 100 meters turn left towards Fighine-Palazzone, the road soon becomes unpaved and climbs past the complex of the Cappuccini, the farm Nebbio and Casetta until you reach loc. Perella.
Continue gently downhill until you reach Cross of Fighine, a beautiful wooden cross in the pine forest. It begins to go down and out of the forest opens immediately a beautiful view on the Castle of Fighine (X sec.) that we will reach shortly. Arrived at the intersection with the road of the castle we are in front of the small church of Santa Maria delle Grazie and continuing towards the castle you get to the main entrance door. Inside the walls, you walk along small streets and stairs that go away and then meet in front of the Church of San Michele Arcangelo.
Almost completely uninhabited, it has been expertly restored in the last 10 years as a tourist residence. The only public place is a small restaurant open seasonally. After the visit, you take the road to Palazzone, continue on asphalt and past the old wash houses you reach the center of Palazzone. After the visit to the small village, where you can find a recreational club and shops of groceries and local products, you can return to San Casciano on foot or by bus.
